Willie Mae Adams was called to glory at the age of 92, on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Her final moments were spent peacefully at home with loved ones.
Willie Mae was born in Camden, South Carolina, on October 18, 1930. She was the daughter of Annie Blanding and Richard Adams Sr., and the oldest of this union. After the death of her mother, Willie Mae was blessed with a second mother, Mary Boyd Gaines Adams.
Willie Mae attended public schools of Kershaw County. She graduated from Jackson high school in Camden, South Carolina.
For more than 50 years, Willie Mae was an active member of Edward Chapel AME Zion Church (formally Little Zion). Willie Mae served faithfully in many capacities, such as church treasurer, stewardess, missionary, and class leader. She also received numerous recognition and awards, including Lay Person of the Year, Mother of the Year, Home Missions Worker, and Home Missions Queen.
Willie Mae enjoyed craft projects, sewing, cooking, and catering. She was active in her community and worked with voter registration and served as a poll worker during the elections.
she will be remembered as being straightforward, but kind, but, moreover, for her love of God and her family.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories seven children, Eddie Adams, Sr., Marion (Brenda) Adams, Sr., Carolyn Adams, Adrian Deschamp, Roberta Richards, Vanessa (Johnnie) Johnson, and Carlos (Roberta) Adams; twelve Grandchildren; thirteen Great-Grandchildren; two Great-Great- Grandchildren; her siblings, Robert (Melissa) Adams, James (Evelyn) Adams, and Hattie (Norman) Hall, Arthur Gaines, Frank (Janette) Gaines, and Margaret (Darreyl) Walker; three Sisters-in-law, Margret Mickle Adams, Lil Gaines, and Beverly Gaines. Willie Mae is also celebrated by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, a special friend, Margret Hill and many others.
Willie Mae is preceded in death by her mother, Annie Blanding Adams, her father, Richard Adams, Sr., and her second mother, Mary Boyd Gaines Adams; a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Paige Deschamp; her siblings, Edward Gaines, James Lee Boyd, Corinne Dempsey, Gladys Jones, Richard Adams, Jr., Elizabeth Luprieno, Thomas Adams and Johnny Gaines.
