Wilbert Taylor

Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou halst holden me by my right hand.Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. A mighty man of God, born on the thirteenth of October in the year nineteen hundred and thirty eight in Kings Mountain, NC to the proud parents, the late Clyde & Martha Ann Taylor. This was their baby boy whom they named Wilbert Lee Taylor.

He was educated in the Cleveland County school system. Upon graduating from Davidson High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country here and abroad until he was honorably discharged. After which he moved and made home in New York City.

There he joined the Soundview Avenue Baptist Church, he served as a Trustee and helped with the construction and expansion of the edifice. Blessed with an anointed voice, he also sung on the male choir and lead many devotions. One of his favorite songs to sing was, "He's sweet I know'. Truly that song brings us much comfort and lasting memories. Upon moving to South Carolina, he joined the Sutton Branch Baptist Church in Lugoff, SC. There he was ordained deacon, served as Sunday School Superintendent, sang on the Musical Choir as well as the Men's Chorus. He enjoyed the Men's Fellowship as well as the Senior Citizen's Ministry. He was a faithful and loyal member and loved his church and church family.

In New York, he met and fell in love with the love of his life, the late Lenora Anita Taylor. He truly honored his vows as he cared for his wife until she transitioned to be with the Lord. They are now reunited in heaven and the love story continues. They married on August 2, 1964. From this union two daughters were born, Kim and Michelle.
He was employed by General Motors in Tarrytown, NY and retired after 30 plus years of service. Upon his return to South Carolina he worked for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and retired to enjoy his family.

Wilbert was a loving and devoted family man. The sacrifices he made for his family will leave a lasting legacy in our hearts. He enjoyed fishing, long drives in the country, cooking, singing and oh how he could make you laugh until you cried. The wisdom that he had was beyond compare and he blessed many with that wisdom and his guidance.

At the "young" age of eighty one, he could run circles around many. He loved to garden and was proud to call and let you know; "the peppers, tomatoes, cucumber are ready". His flowers brought him joy and he enjoyed awaited the blooms of his work. The seeds he planted in his yard he planted in his family as well. Seeds of love, faith, hard work, determination and so much more. He will truly be missed.

After a brief illness, God called his servant home to rest from his labor. On Tuesday, April 14, 2020, our beloved began the last mile of his journey and bid this world farewell. We know he had a prayer on his heart and a song on his lips "I am redeemed, bought with a price, Jesus has changed my whole life. If anybody asks you, just who I am, tell them I am redeemed. I'll tell of His favor, I'll tell of His love, I'll tell of His goodness to me.He purchased my redemption with His own precious blood, and from sin I've been set free."
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, children; Kim Taylor-Warren (Thoyd) and Michelle Blaylock (Mario). Grandchildren, Taylor, TJ, Morgan, which were the light of his life. Sibling, Leon Taylor (Sallie). Sister in laws, Gladys Wood (Charles), Willie Dickey, Roberta DeWitt, Patricia Redmond (James). Brothers in laws, Leroy Bennett (Susie) and Richard Bennett (Shirley). A host of nieces and nephews. Godchildren, Robert Bennix (Marsella) and Cheryl Bennix. He was preceded in death by one Brother, Clyde Taylor, Jr. As well as his best friend, Jim Bennix.
After his loving wife transitioned, there was a letter that she pinned to him, which was found after her passing. Her words sum it all up� "Always remember it is your uniqueness that makes you special� So stay that way"
He did just that and more. May the life he lived and the service he gave speak a soundly well for him.
