Camden

Sylvesta (Sly) Robinson was born on January 12, 1965, in Manhasset, New York, to the late William and Ruth Dorothy (Brevard) Robinson. He peacefully departed this earth on February 5, 2025, to be with the Lord.

Sylvesta was raised as a child to love the Lord and keep him in his heart and life. He attended St. Paul AME Church in Great Neck, New York. As a child, he loved swimming and diving. His passion for the water later led him to join the United States Coast Guard. He served his country for 4 Years. He was educated in the New York public school system and graduated from Westbury High School.

Sylvesta’s career in South Carolina began with Kershaw County Animal Control and later started a new profession in Law Enforcement with the following: Kershaw County Sheriff's Office, Camden Police, and Elgin Police, South Carolina Department of Corrections (SLED) at Kershaw Correctional Institution, Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, and Kershaw Country Detention. He worked Undercover Narcotics, Internal Affairs, Criminal Investigations, Camden High School Resource Officer and D.A.R.E instructor. His personality and love for people made him known across the county.

After retiring from Law Enforcement, Sly stayed involved in the Camden community by serving on the board of the Price House, Food for the Soul, and the Jackson Teen Center. He enjoyed grilling, working with cars and his beloved New York Jets.

He recently joined the staff of the Medical University South Carolina (MUSC) Kershaw Hospital while driving ambulatory vehicles for Lifeline.
Sylvesta leaves to cherish his memory a loving family, including his devoted wife, Lotta, and one daughter, Alisha Crystal Joe (Jmonte’) with Jacquelyn Ford; three grandchildren, Kali, Krystal, and Kenzie; siblings: William Stanley Robinson of Camden, SC, Stephan Allen (Carolyn) Robinson of Roosevelt, NY and Sharon Ann Williams of Camden, SC; and nieces, aunts and uncle along with a host of cousins and friends who loved him dearly.

Sly, your smiling face will truly be missed by all who knew you. Your commitment to service others continues with your gift of life donation. Others lives were saved because of your kindness.

In your honor we will “Think outside the box” and pass on words of encouragement to someone.
