Sophia C. Drakeford

May 12, 1926 — February 3, 2021

Sophia Clark Drakeford answered God's call and was granted her angel wings on February 3, 2021 at Pruitt Health in Ridgeway, South Carolina. She was born May 12, 1926 to the late Odessa and Wylie Clark, Sr. Sophia was married to her husband, Vannie Drakeford, Sr, for 54 years before he passed away on November 9, 1997. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. For the past 70 years, she was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was known as "The Mother of Macedonia" and she held many positions over the years, including Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary, Vice President of the Missionary Department and served on the Senior Choir.

In her early years, Sophia worked as a Nurse's Aide. In the 1980's, her granddaughters, Torri and Lakisa remember her cranking up the 1965 light green Ford during the summers and they knew it was time to take a ride and deliver Skin So Soft and other beauty products to her customers. Many may remember her as "The Avon Lady." In her golden years, she enjoyed being a volunteer at Kershaw County Hospital in the Gift Shop.

Sophia was an Eastern Star at the Hadoth Lodge for more than 50 years where she served as Secretary and Associate Matron.

One thing about Sophia, she never held back and you always knew how she felt about a situation whether good or bad.

She was a loving mother and amazing grandmother and she will be greatly missed, but we know she is in the everlasting arms of God and is at peace. We wish her a peaceful journey until we meet again.

Those left to cherish her fond memory are her children, Bessie Drakeford Strickland, Geraldine S. Williams and her husband Edgar J. Williams, Vannie Drakeford, Jr and his wife Gladys Drakeford, and Alvenia Drakeford-Dinkins and her husband Robert Dinkins; grandchildren, Torri Strickland-Anderson (James), Lakisa Johnson (Jerrold) and Myron Dinkins; brother, Johnnie E. Clark (Wilhelmina); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vannie Drakeford, Sr; siblings, Doshia Drakeford (Walter), Bessie Clark Pride (James), Eddie Clark and Wylie Clark, Jr. (Lillie); and her son-in-law, Herman Strickland, Jr.
