Simon Ransom Wade ("Sike") was born on February 28, 1928, in Rembert, South Carolina. Simon was the seventh child born to the late Reverend Marion L. Wade and Meta Wade Jones. He was predeceased by his sisters Meta W. George, Martha Wright, and Carolyn Wade; brothers, Marion and Martin Wade. After being introduced by his brother Horace, Simon married his sweetheart, the late Elizabeth Halley Wade, on January 23, 1952. They were married 56 years. Simon enjoyed a rich family life as a child, was a good student, a bit rambunctious, but was always curious. That inquisitiveness served him well during his lifetime. His family never wanted for anything- he was a great and steady provider. He was a metal worker, a carpenter, a general contractor, a locksmith, a military policeman, a constructing inspector, and a good cook. He was also his daughter Verna's favorite fabric consultant and walking buddy; his daughter Linda's favorite fishing buddy and his wife's favorite dance partner. The humor he infused into his family life was always rich, uplifting and fun. His devotion to God was steady, constant and essential to his joy. His care of his family and friends touched young and old alike. His interest in languages led him to study German and his love of jazz provided exposure to jazz greats in their home. He enjoyed fishing, boating, history and family gatherings. Simon was also a Mason. His great love and devotion to his wife Elizabeth was exemplified in many ways, including his selfless care as they battled her illness. His courage and dignity during his own illness was a testament to his great faith. Simon and Elizabeth were the proud parents of two daughters, Verna Patricia Ikner and Linda Elizabeth Waye. They also extended their family to include Thomasina Haynes and Charlton Rivers. Simon was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Brooklyn as a young family man. Before relocating to South Carolina, Simon worshipped at First Baptist Church in East Elmhurst Queens for many years under the leadership of Reverend Brookward Bush, his sister Florence's husband. After relocating to South Caro-lina from Queens, New York; he became a devoted member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church where he served as treasurer. His daughters Verna and Linda, his son-in-law Spencer Waye, his grandchildren Spencer Jr., Elizabeth, Reggie, Leah, Walter Jr., and his great grandchildren Violette and Alex, will treasure wonderful memories and his irrepressible sense of humor and joy for life. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Mary Moore, Florence Bush, Myrteen King and Annie Mae Williams, and brother Horace Wade; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
