MOTHER SADIE R. JOHNSON, daughter of the late Matthew and Nancy Williams Reed, was born in Boykin, South Carolina on December 16, 1919, and was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, after living a full and beautiful life at the age of 102.
Sadie, affectionally referred to as “Deepie” by many loved ones, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Sadie accepted the Lord as her Savior at a young age and was a devoted member of Good Hope-Wesley Chapel UMC in Camden, South Carolina; singing for many years on the Senior Choir and serving as a communion steward. Sadie worked as a domestic worker and became an excellent cook because of this. Her sweet potato custards were legendary, and nothing made her happier than cooking for her family during the holidays.
In Sadie’s spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting and travelling to such places as New York, Canada, and the Amish Country in Pennsylvania. Her loving, caring, and sharing ways reached beyond her children and touched a multitude of family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Whit Albert
Johnson and four children: Cleo Howard, Thomas (known as Ruby), Johnny, and George Johnson.
Mother Sadie Reed Johnson leaves to cherish her memory daughters: Bertha Goodwin, Helen (Newry) Roseborough, Thelma Hudson, and Evangelist Ella
Williams, a son: Victor (Mary) Johnson, and a granddaughter that she raised: Carla Renee’ (Terry) Brown, twenty additional grandchildren, and a host of
great- and great-great- grands, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
