Ruth Aiken Cochran, daughter of the late Fred Elijah Aiken and Clementine James Aiken, was born on October 29, 1922 in Islandton, South Carolina. On November 23, 2020, she entered into eternal rest in Columbia, South Carolina.
Ruth received her early education in the low country. She would later relocate to New York. Ruth was employed for over 25 years by Doubleday Publishers and Sperry Rand in Nassau County, New York where she was employed in clerical roles. In addition to her clerical experience, she was well versed in the use of natural herbal remedies, which she credits as the key to her longevity and health. Ruth was married to the late Charles Cochran and to this union, two children were born, Gloria Jean Cochran Cheatham and Oliver Cochran. Later in life, she relocated to Camden, South Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cochran, and her daughter, Gloria Jean Cheatham.
She is survived by her son, Oliver Cochran of Miami-Dade, Florida; one brother, Vernon Aiken of Lugoff, South Carolina; one sister, Hortense Edwards of Queens Village, New York; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
