Reese Edward Brown went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 5th, 2019, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the son of the late James Preston Brown and Bertha Thompson Brown, born January 15, 1949 in Newport News, Virginia.
Reese attended Mayo High School and St. Paul College. He was a standout football player and is remembered for his work ethic on the field and athletic ability. Reese was a die hard Clemson Tigers and Dallas Cowboys fan.
Reese was employed by Sumner Company of Columbia, South Carolina and retired from Amcor-PET-Packing Company in Blythewood, South Carolina. He was very passionate about working with Collins Funeral Home, Inc up until his health failed.
Reese was very active in his church, James Chapel AME in Lugoff, South Carolina. He served as a trustee, steward, usher, sang on the usher board choir and senior choir. Reese also helped organize the James Chapel Sunbeam choir and served as a class leader. Reese had a love for gospel music and started the Gospel Imperials. He would later serve as the substitute driver for the world renowned Gospel Legends of Columbia, South Carolina.
Reese embraced life and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and dancing.
Reese will live in the memories of his loving family. He leaves his daughter, Tamela (Monto) President of Temple, TX; faithful companion, Rejeania Wood of Lugoff, SC; nine brothers, Eugene Thompson of Hopewell, VA, James Rufus Thompson of Virginia Beach, VA, Chester McFarland of Baltimore, MD, Jack Brown of New York, Dr. Whitley Brown of Charlottesville, VA, Randolph Brown of Delaware, James (Shelby) Preston Brown, Jr of Tampa, FL, Anthony Brown of Virginia Beach, VA and Kevin Brown of Darlington, SC; four sisters, Rosa Allen of McKenney, VA, Frances Irene Thomas of Florence, SC, Debra Sandiego of Virginia Beach, VA, and Rosetta Davis of Delaware; two grandchildren, Toriana and Monto President, Jr of Temple, TX; very special children, D'Vore (Lynn) Wood, DreShon (Taylor) Wood, Carol (Michael) Wells, Chris (Jessica) Wood), Chad (Kymberly) Wood, Chad Kelly, Gwen Kelly, and Xavier Bowman; Grands he helped raise, Courtney, Khila, Ambi, Brailyn, Aubrey, Lauryn, Tameka, Victoria, Elijah, Gabby, MacKinzie and Tristan; great grandchildren, Pryncess and Kolbie; a devoted caregiver, Martha A Wood; best friend, Ned Lyles, a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Winston, Jimmy, John and Will; stepmother, Gladys Page Brown.
