Sister Rebecca B. Drakeford, 96, without a whimper, sigh or moan, quietly and serenely stepped briskly and calmly aboard the ship of Zion on Monday, June 1st, 2020 at Kershaw Health Medical in Camden, South Carolina.
Death is a gain when it means the end of one's sorrow. We live in a world of beauty, but there is also sadness. However, we have blessed assurance that life does not end with death; it gives the soul an eternal resting place.
Rebecca was the daughter of the late Thompson and Penny Mickle Barnes. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Good Hope A.M.E. Zion Church. Rebecca married the late Benjamin Drakeford, Sr. She would then join Zion Hill A.M.E. Zion Church where she would become the mother of the church, president missionary and life member of missionary with stroll, president of the usher board and president of the deaconess board. She was a devoted servant who loved the Lord and was loved by her church family. Rebecca was also a member of the Eastern Stars Hadoth 138 and Camden Senior Citizens group.
Rejoicing in her beautiful memory but mourning her loss are her loving son, Benjamin (Patricia) Drakeford, Jr; grandchildren, Kris (Yolanda) Drakeford and Shanice Drakeford; great grandchildren, Makayla Drakeford and Zachary Drakeford; sister, Thelma Warren; special niece, Ruby Thorton; special nephew, Cory Murphy; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, grandson, Benjamin R. Drakeford, two sisters and five brothers.
