Mary Lee Wright was born on December 12, 1941 to Mary Lee Evans and Richard Pickett. She was the adopted daughter of English and Julia Wright of Camden, South Carolina.
Mary was educated in Kershaw County schools where she lived and graduated from high school. Upon leaving Camden, Mary resided in New York City where she worked in the banking industry for many years until her retirement in 2003.
Mary always had an active church life. She enjoyed singing in the choir and served as treasurer for a time at Greater Central Baptist Church in Manhattan, NY.
After returning to Camden, South Carolina, Mary rejoined Parker Baptist Church and later joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where she also sang in the choir.
She is preceded in death by her adopted parents, English and Julia Wright of Camden; as well as her birth parents, Mary Evans and Richard Pickett; her four brothers, Reverend Washington Wright, Leroy Wright, Henry Wright, and Luther Wright.
She also leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Reginald L. Bates (Rosalind), Regina Craig (John), Renita Monroe (James), and Renee Bates; four grandchildren, Rasheen Bates, Tiandra Bates, Riandra Bates and Rishon E. Bates; two great-grandsons, Rasheen and Raheem Bates; her sister, Patricia Bush (Evans); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
