Mrs. Mary Lee Barnes was born the 7th child of Lelia and Solomon Drakeford on February 14, 1931 in Westville, South Carolina. She grew up in a loving Christian home and became an active church member for many years where she served as an usher, choir member, missionary, deaconess, and Sunday School teacher at Good Hope A.M.E. Zion Church.
Mrs. Mary Lee Barnes departed her earthly family for her heavenly home on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 5:00 am in Jacksonville, Florida.
After a brief illness she leaves to mourn three sons, Eric J. Barnes (Earline) of Jacksonville, FL; Herman Barnes of Bridgeport, Connecticut; Stanley L. Barnes of Denver, Colorado. In addition, she will be dearly missed by four grandchildren, Rashad, Shani, Aisha and Kierra; a great grandson, Camden James Maymon; a cherished Goddaughter, Rosalin Hampton; two brothers James Drakeford of Ashland, Virginia and King Solomon Drakeford, Jr. of Camden, South Carolina; three sister-in-laws and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mrs. Barnes took great pride in being a homemaker for many years and expressed her artistic talents through various flowers, designs and crafts.
