Leroy Stover, II

January 19, 1941 — June 18, 2015

Leroy Stover, Jr was born January 19, 1941 in Camden, South Carolina to the late Leroy S. Stover, Sr. and the late Eva Mae Robinson Stover.
Leroy was known as Roy or LEE. He acknowledged Christ as his Savior early in life becoming a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church in Camden, South Carolina. In his early days, Leroy was a member of the Choir, taught Sunday School, member of the Pastoral Administrative Council and the Trustee Board. He was educated in the public school system of Kershaw County.
He was married to the late Maxine Deloatch Stover and from that union came three children Leroy III, Tammi and Kenya. Leroy was a truck driver and drove for Builders Transport, Senn and Schneider Trucking. He had lots of truck stories and enjoyed completing his deliveries to arrive before the other drivers. He was a collector of bells and had bells from all 50 states and a collector of baseball cards from all the leagues. He had a special interest in the Black Negro Baseball League and had replicas of the players. Leroy also love collecting coins.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed drag racing and fast cars which explains why his daughter and son love speed and motorcycles. He loved watching Venus and Serena Williams play tennis and the Golden Girls. Leroy loved to listen to old spirituals. One of his favorites was "Better days are coming by and by." He enjoyed eating good fatback with corn bread and soup. He would tell very dry jokes that only he could get a good laugh.
Leroy enjoyed tinkling; his family knew before he started a task he would say "let's see, said the blind man." As his health declined, Leroy knew time was near so he took the time to thank his family for their kindness shown to him during his illness. Leroy departed this life on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Kershaw Health in Camden, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by three brothers, David Stover, Willie Stover, and Eddie Stover. Those left to cherish his fond memories, grieve his passing and celebrate his home going are his children: Leroy Stover, III and Tammi Stover both of Charlotte, North Carolina and Kenya Stover of New Jersey; four grandchildren; three brothers, Deacon Brodies (Mary) Stover and Johnny (Lydia) Stover both of Camden, South Carolina and Norman (Sheba) Stover of Bowie, Maryland; three sisters, Ivory (Albert) Bradford of Camden, South Carolina, Lillie Jennings of Natalie, Virginia and Elease Kirkland of Lugoff , South Carolina, a host of nieces, neph-ews, other relatives and friends.
