Mr. Jerry Nathaniel Lee (Snag), son of the late Lewis "Sonny boy" Johnson and Rosa Lee Massey, was born in Camden, SC on November 5, 1957. He was an accomplished jockey, placing in the top three in nearly a third of his total starts (2,128 total starts). He was widely known as a pioneer for young, upcoming black jockeys during his time and was truly loved by all whom he encountered.
Jerry departed his earthly life after a fierce and ongoing battle with colon cancer at Kershaw Health in Camden, SC on January 17, 2018.
Those left to mourn his passing and cherish his endless memories are his brother Randolph "Skullhead" and his sisters Louella Johnson, Lousie Feazell, and Joyce "5 cent" M. Cook, all residing in the Camden - Lugoff area. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters, as well as his brother, James Massey, and his sisters, Bessie Mae Williams and Sonya "10 cent" M. Tucker.
He is survived by his wife, Melvena Lee and seven children; Darnell, Kimberly (Steven), Jessica Latoya (Leonard), Teanna, Geri, Derrick, and Lesha; 14 grandchildren; close nephews (Roderick, Damont, and James "Tre") and nieces (Shantel and Dreama); special friends (James Jefferson, Jr. and Angie Timbers); and countless loved ones.
