James Grant Patterson, 80, passed away in Columbia, South Carolina on June 7, 2024. He was born on May 30, 1944, in Camden, South Carolina, to the late Lonnie and Alice Patterson.
Grant found joy in his career working with horses and grooming them. His passion for horses was evident to all who knew him. He also worked at Red Bank Farms in Boykin, South Carolina. Beyond professional life, James delighted in playing golf and indulging in reading books.
His proudest accomplishments included serving as the Chairman the Deacon Board at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, being the FLC Coordinator, a former Bible study teacher, serving as the first church bus driver, and he previously served as a trustee. His dedication to his church and community was unwavering.
In his journey through life, Grant was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Alice Patterson; as well as by his brothers Rev. Lonnie Patterson and Wallace Patterson; and nephew, Joshua Valentine.
Grant leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth to be carried on by his surviving family. He is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy Patterson; one daughter Debra Wilson; one son, Kimm (Charlotte) Patterson; three grandchildren, Kayla Wilson, Diamond Wilson, and Hannah Patterson; and one great grandchild Remington Fortune – all residing in Camden, SC. Additionally, he is survived by four siblings: Sallie Patterson, Shirley (Joe) Mills, Henry Patterson of Camden, SC; Liz (Eddie) Anderson of Wedgefield, SC; and six in-laws: David (Linda) Blair; Eva Valentine of Bethune, SC; Shirley Graham of Camden, SC; Sandra (David) Wiley; Margie Perkins; Emanuel Blair of Bishopville, SC. James also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.
