Rev. Dr. James Charles Levy, Jr

Collins Funeral Home is assisting the Levy family with the local arrangements for Dr. Rev. J. Charles Levy, Jr. *Due to inclement weather, viewing will be at Collins Funeral Home from 3 PM until 6 PM on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The funeral service will take place at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1 PM.* Interment will take place at a later date.

Reverend Dr. James Charles Levy, Jr., eldest son of the late Reverend James Charles Levy, Sr. and the late Rosena Belton Levy, was born in New York City, New York on July 27, 1941. He was called from labor to reward in the early hours of Wednesday, January 15, 2025 in Youngstown, Ohio.

Reverend Dr. Levy was a graduate of Long High School in Cheraw, South Carolina. After high school, he attended Morris College, Sumter, South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, doing a tour in the Philippines. Later, graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois.

Reverend Dr. Levy was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of South Carolina, working with Morris Funeral Cottage, Cheraw, South Carolina. Later, he was called into the ministry and pastored many churches in North and South Carolina over the years. Some of those churches included Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Camden, Charity Baptist Church, North Charleston and most recently, Jesus Joy Apostolic Church, North Charleston. After retirement, he relocated to Youngstown, Ohio.

Those left to celebrate his life and legacy include: a son, James Charles Levy, III of Youngstown, Ohio; a daughter, Danielle Levy Arnold of Youngstown, Ohio; two brothers, Richard (Mary) Levy, Sr. of Columbia, South Carolina and Reuben (Elizabeth) Levy, Sr. of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina; one sister, Janet Levy (Alfred) Lewis of Columbia, South Carolina; three grandchildren, a host of nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends and church congregations and lives he touched through his ministries.
