Mr. James Elmer Furman, Sr. entered into eternal life on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Midlands Heart and Rehabilitation, Columbia, South Carolina. Born on September 25, 1920 in Kershaw County, he was the son of the late Dorsey Furman and Laura Miller Furman. As a young man, Mr. Furman was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Drakeford Furman. To this union, nine children were born. Mr. Furman was preceded in death by his parents Dorsey and Laura Furman; four brothers, Dorsey Furman, David (Virginia) Furman, John Furman, Eddie B. Furman, and four sister-in-laws, Bernice Furman, Carrie, Lizzis Furman, Virginia Furman. Those left to cherish his fond memories, grieve his passing and celebrate his home going are, his devoted wife Mary D. Furman, five daughters, Yvonne Workman, Pearline Furman, Jessie Alexander, Loretta Furman, all of Camden, South Carolina, Minister Mary A. (Charles) Cosby of Lawton, Oklahoma; one adopted daughter, Madeline (Columbus) Williams of Camden, South Carolina; five sons, James (Elizabeth) Furman of El Paso, Texas, Dr. Jerome Furman or Snellville, Georgia, Michael (Cynthia) Furman of Florence, South Carolina, Raymond Furman of Washington, DC, Barron (Azaleana) Furman of Camden, South Carolina; seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grand; one sister-in-law, Lottie M. Drakeford of Westville, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. During his life he built enduring relationships, loved and deeply touched the hearts of many.
