Mrs. Irene Mickle Wood peacefully entered into eternal rest at her residence on Saturday, February 4, 2017. She was born July 25, 1926 in Ridgeway, South Carolina to the late Mr. Mose Mickle and the late Mrs. Maggie Crim Mickle. Mrs. Wood was educated in the public schools of Kershaw County. At an early age, she received her early religious training at James Chapel A.M.E. Church and later joined Fort Clark Baptist Church. She was active in the Women's Ministry and Senior Choir until her health declined. Irene was married to the late Mr. Frank Wesley Wood, Sr. for 60 years. To this union, seven children were born. She was employed at Craft Farrow and Midlands Center where she retired after 28 years of service. Mrs. Wood was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to all she came in contact with. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Irene loved to sing, recite poetry, travel and work in her garden. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Frank Wood, Sr., daughter, Mrs. Nancy Brunson, two sisters, Beatrice Lyles and Naomi Galloway and one brother, Willie L. Mickle, Sr. Those left to cherish her fond memories are: her daughters, Ms. Eloise Wood and Ms. Diane Wood both of Elgin, South Carolina and Mrs. Priscilla (Venicent) Blair, Sr. of Hanover, Maryland; sons, Mr. Frank Wood, Jr. of Elgin, South Carolina, Mr. Ronnie (Linda) Wood of Columbia, South Carolina and Mr. Stanley (Louise) Wood of Lugoff, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ms. Richardine Wood of Capitol Heights, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
