Henry Franklin Allen Sr., Senior Master Sergeant (SMSGT) Retired, was born December 9, 1932 in Tampa, FL. He was the youngest of six gifts from God (two sisters and four brothers) given to the late Jerry M. Allen and Estelle Louis. He was preceded in death by his three brothers; Willie, Herman, and Joseph D.
Henry attended public schools in Tampa, FL and graduated from Middleton High School. Later in life, he received his Bachelors Degree from Saint Leo University in 1987. He was extremely proud of this accomplishment.
Henry joined the Air Force after high school. He married the love of his life, Helen Mildred Craig, and served his country proudly for 28 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he and Mildred relocated back to Sumter, SC, where he worked at Shaw Air Force base for another 15 years.
He was a devoted husband and father and was a very kind, loving, and giving friend. He was always there to help others in any way he could. Henry was a proud veteran who adored his grandchildren and had a passion for gardening and supporting various charities.
Henry transitioned from this life to eternal life doing what he loved - gardening. His memories will be cherished by his wife, Mildred; his son, Henry “Hank” F. Allen Jr., and his wife, Iva, of Kildeer, IL; two grandchildren, Derek and Olivia, both of Kildeer, IL; two sisters, Elizabeth Bethea and Inell Roney, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and dear friends.
Though he is no longer physically with us, his loving and giving spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all who loved and knew him.
