Gloria J Buggs

On Wednesday, September 7, 1932 Gloria Jacqueline Cleveland Buggs entered the world as the only child of Francis Shenovah Armour in Staunton, VA. She was preceded in death by her great grandmother Kitty Russell, her grandmother Lola Smith, her mother Francis Armour, her son Michael Buggs and her grandsons Frederick Mark Tucker and Anthony Buckner-Buggs.

Gloria Cleveland received her formal education in Newark, NJ. In 1981, she received an Associate degree in Elementary Education from Essex County College, in Newark, NJ. Later she worked towards a Bachelors’ degree at Seton Hall University in Orange, NJ. She was a devoted church goer and while living in NJ was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and Calvary Christian Church. In 1984, she moved to Beesville, TX to be near her son, Samuel III, who was stationed in the Navy. While there, she worked as an office/kindergarten aide at Trinity Christian School. She moved to San Diego, CA in 1987, with her son Manuel, settled down and worked at Lincoln Preparatory High School in San Diego as an office aide until she retired. Not soon after moving to San Diego, she joined and became an active member of 38th Street Church of Christ. In December of 2017, she moved to Camden, SC to be near family.

Married in 1949 to Samuel Buggs, Jr. (now deceased) of Charleston, VA, she divorced in 1972. She leaves behind those to cherish her memories, Children: Wanda Kemp and husband Ronald, Cheryl "Sherry" Seward, Samuel Buggs III and Manuel Buggs. In addition, eight grandchildren: Tanya Tucker, Mark Tucker, Raymond Seward II, Dr. Sherita Seward-Brown and husband Dr. Timothy Brown, Jason Buggs, Christopher Buggs, Kenneth Buggs and Marquis Buggs, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, her sister in Christ and friend Velma Nash and “special” nephew, Robert Bristol. As well as numerous relatives and friends around the country.

In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She loved children and enjoyed making little bags of goodies for them to give out at church or school. She loved the Lord and was always quoting verses from the Bible and sharing the Lord with others. She died peacefully in her sleep and went home to be with her mother on March 2, 2021.
