Eddie Brevard, Jr., age 78, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center, Camden, South Carolina. He was the husband of Harriett Carlos Brevard.
Born January 5, 1943, in Camden, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Eddie Brevard, Sr. and the late Bessie Williams Brevard. Two sisters - Elizabeth Brevard Autrey and Annette Brevard Timmons, and two brothers - Ernest Brevard, Sr. and Willie J. Alexander, predeceased him.
Eddie was a graduate of Jackson High School, Camden, South Carolina and Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. He was employed as a teacher in Kershaw County for many years prior to starting his own construction company. He was also a master chef and catered throughout Kershaw County. These careers allowed him to touch the lives of countless young people and impact their career skills. Eddie was a master builder of character!
He met the love of his life, Harriett, in 1962 and they were married on March 7, 1964. To this union three amazing children were born: Deirdre, Marcia, and Anthony. The joys of his life, upon whom he showered love and affection, were his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They not only occupied a place on his lap and his “secret’’ candy jar (hidden just for them), but also held a special place in his heart.
A lifelong active member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Eddie worked with the youth ministry, trustees, the United Methodist Men, and served as a mentor to many young people within the church. His commitment, dedication and faithfulness to God and the church are boldly recognized with his name being included on the cornerstone. One of Eddie’s proudest accomplishments was the construction of the current church parsonage.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife - Harriett; two daughters - Deirdre Brevard Smith, Marcia Brevard Wynn, a son - Anthony (Angelia) Brevard; six grandchildren - Ashley (Sidney) Shaw, Jordan Wynn, Jeremy Wynn, Lauren (Devin) Jackson, Brittany (Branden) May, and William Brevard; five great-grandchildren - Londyn and Kamryn Shaw, and Isabella, Ruby, and Jackson May; a sister - Willie Mae Brevard; three sisters-in-law - Margaret Alexander, Gloria (Clarence) Caldwell and Marietta Giddens; a godson - Bobby (Deanna) Engram; bonus sons -Eugene “Bobo” Hough, Dr. James P.
