Elgin, South Carolina – Dorothy Mae Brown, a devoted mother, grandmother, and respected environmental engineer, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born in Kingstree, South Carolina, on October 19, 1948, Dorothy spent her life committed to her family, friends, and her work. She was a resident of Elgin, South Carolina, where she built a life rich in love and community.
Dorothy's professional journey was marked by her passion and dedication as an environmental engineer at the University of South Carolina. Her work not only contributed to the academic community but also inspired countless students and colleagues who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Tara Brown, who was the light of her life; her cherished grandchildren, Fredron Solomon and Tasharia Brown; and two adored great-grandsons. Dorothy's presence will also be missed by a host of relatives and dear friends who felt her kindness and generosity throughout her life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Lizzie Bell Prosser, and her niece, Dawn Jones, both of whom she held close in her heart and memory.
Though our hearts are heavy with this profound loss, we find comfort in the legacy Dorothy leaves behind—a legacy of strength, resilience, and unwavering love.
A celebration of Dorothy Mae Brown's life and legacy will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
