Bertha M. Davis

Bertha Mae Davis was born to late the Henry Carter and Ellen Cooke. Our mom was the most loving and soft spoken person I know. She always had a lot of wise sayings which we constantly referred to as the sayings of “Big Bad”. She loved her children unconditionally and treated each of us with the individual love and attention we required. She always shared life lessons with us when she called us all to lay in the bed with her. We each would lay on her and she would share, ask questions or answer the questions we had about life. She was blessed with four children Carol (Marion) Pinckney, Margaret Bouie, Jacqueline (Teddy) Gregg, Fred Bernard Davis and a God-son, Lee Powell. Henry and Ellen Carter gave her 13 siblings: late Ruth Bradford, James Carter, Isaiah Carter, Marion Carter, Charles Carter; Minnie Williams, Bessie Huntley, Henry Carter, Jr, Easter Davis, Ellen (Vaughn) Williams, Rebecca Jones, Isaac (Mary) Carter, Luther (Wanda) Carter, sister in-law Mary H. Carter and lifelong friend, Ollie Brisbon. Her grandchildren: Markell (Joceyln) Stradford, Dr. Ashekia Pinckney, Dereis (Patricia) Richardson, Takenyia (Shannon) Reid, Kiara Stewart, Nia Davis, Kayla Gregg, Alexandria Bouie, and Lauren Davis. Great-Grand children: Dereis, William, Malcom and Luna Richardson, and Andre, Evelyn and Elana Stradford. Her family also extended to nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
