Benjamin Franklin Drakeford heard God whisper his name and he answered on Friday night April 29, 2022 at MUSC Kershaw Health Medical Center in Camden, South Carolina. A son of the late Nannie Jackson Drakeford and the late Jason Drakeford, he was born on January 29, 1955 in Kershaw County.
Frank, as he was affectionately known, received his early education in Kershaw County schools and was a graduate of Baron DeKalb High School. In his youth, Frank found Christ as his Lord and Savior while he attended both Flat Rock Baptist Church and Ebenezer AME Zion Church. Later in life, he served on the Steward Board, Senior Choir and as a Sunday School teacher.
Frank enjoyed the outdoors and family. His favorite hobbies included fishing, lawn work and working in the garden. During his working years, Frank worked at the Lancaster Mill and he worked with pulp wood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters- Catherine, Lilly Mae, Marie, Betty and Stephanie; and two brothers- Larry Drakeford and Baby Boy Drakeford.
Those left to forever remember his presence and cherish his hilarious and fun memory include two sisters, Gwendolyn Hartzog of the home and Hannah Stewart of Patterson, New Jersey; two brothers, Wilbur (Sylvia) Drakeford of Kershaw, South Carolina and James Drakeford of Washington, D.C.; two siblings raised in the home, Chevolyn Branch and Melvin Drakeford; those he helped to raise, Arshala and Milton Hartzog, Dravon, Da’Shon, Unique and Nevaeh Bethea; sister-in-law- Barbara Drakeford of Kershaw, South Carolina; aunt, Katherine Jackson of Westville, South Carolina; neighboring brother and sister, Spencer and Ida Rutledge; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
