Ada (Johnson) Stewart

Mrs. Ada Mae Johnson (Owen) Stewart was born on December 29, 1927 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Ada Mae was the second oldest of five children born to the late Walter and Lessie Fogle Johnson. She was married to James Elliott “Shep” Stewart in 1968 and, together, they lived in Lugoff, South Carolina. She departed this life on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Quality Care Residential Home in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Ada Mae graduated from Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Business and Masters of Education from South Carolina State College. In addition to teaching for 35 years, she worked for the Clemson Extension Farm and Home Demonstration Office. She also served as the first business education teacher at the new Jackson High School and business teacher for the Kershaw County Vocational Center (now Applied Technology Education Campus), both in Camden, South Carolina. Ada Mae was a Charter Member of the Iota Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in Camden, South Carolina, as well as a faithful leader and member of Smyrna United Methodist Church (Unity United Methodist Church). Additionally, she has left an indelible mark on her community through other countless volunteer and service efforts. Ada Mae has left a rich legacy for her family and friends. Cherishing the memories and impact of her life are: one daughter, Mrs. Wanda Stewart Middleton of Lugoff, South Carolina; one granddaughter, Mrs. Adrienne Middleton Edge of Summerville, South Carolina; one grandson-in-love, Mr. LeNolon Edge, Sr. of Summerville, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Mr. LeNolon Edge, Jr. (age 7) and Miss Layla Elizabeth Edge (age 2 ½ ), both of Summerville, South Carolina; one sister, Mrs. Della Loretta Johnson Lamar of Augusta, Georgia; two nieces, Ms. Theresa Lamar of Augusta, Georgia and Naima Blunt of New York; three nephews, Mr. Matthew Lamar III (Paula) of Mississippi, Mr. Walter Lamar (Clarisa) of Texas, and Mr. Kenneth Lamar (Michelle) of North Augusta, South Carolina; and a host of other relatives, colleagues and friends.
