Edward Eugene Adamson

Edward Eugene Adamson was born December 27, 1955 in Camden, South Carolina to Wee Adamson, Sr. and Della Nancy Moses Adamson. He passed away peacefully in his home in Camden, SC on August 1, 2022.

Eugene attended Kirkland Elementary School and graduated from Baron DeKalb High School in Camden, South Carolina in 1973. Eugene was known as “Black” in high school, a nickname that carried through the rest of his life among his friends. Eugene loved playing basketball and baseball in high school and hanging out with his classmates. He had fond memories of driving the local high school bus, and going to the dance hall with his friends. He was known as a sharp dresser and loved to look good.

Eugene enlisted in the Army in 1975. While he served, he traveled to other countries in Europe, Central, and South America. Some of the bases he was stationed at included Germany, Honduras, Virginia, Texas, and Washington.

It was while he was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA in 1976 that he met his future wife, Naomi Cordell. They married in 1979 in Tacoma, WA. Their son Tamaz Cordell was born in 1983 in Ft. Lewis, WA. Their daughter Midori Sherika was born in 1989 in Petersburg, VA while they were stationed at Ft. Lee.

Eugene and his family settled in Tacoma, WA after he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1990. He became a Waste Water Operator for Bird’s Eye Foods in Tacoma in 1991, where he worked until 2011 when the plant closed. His wife Naomi unexpectedly passed away in 2008.

Eugene obtained a certified commercial truck driving license in 2012, and did long-hauls across the United States, which fed into his love for travel and driving. He moved back to his birthplace in Camden, SC in 2013 so he could be closer to his family back home. After working at Invista in Camden for a short time, Eugene decided to retire.

Eugene loved playing basketball, going to the casino, dancing, playing 8-ball pool on his phone, traveling and spending time with his family. He loved to have a good time, crack jokes, and was known for his warm and wide smile. Many relatives and friends looked up to Eugene and visited him often for his wisdom, guidance, and company. He enjoyed sharing a good glass of Courvoisier, cognac or wine with his family and friends. “Unk” was like a second dad to many of his nephews and nieces.

Eugene was thrilled and overjoyed with the birth of his grandchild, Ember Naomi Brady in 2019. He looked forward to and loved his weekly video chats with her and Midori.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Adamson; his parents, Wee Adamson, Sr. and Della Nancy Adamson; sisters, Cornelia Stover; Mary Adamson; Willie Mae Neal; and Janie Edna Adamson; and brothers: Harry Adamson; Ruben Adamson; and Wee Adamson Jr.

He is survived by his son, Tamaz (Brenda) Adamson; daughter, Midori (John) Brady; granddaughter, Ember Brady; sisters, Herlene Atkins, Julia (Champ) Champion, and Della Christine Jones; brother, Walter (Earleen) Adamson; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
